Killarney Drop-off resumes full operations

17 July 2026

The City of Cape Town is pleased to advise residents that the Killarney Community Recycling Centre, formerly known as the Killarney Drop-off facility, will resume full operations from Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

The planned upgrades and maintenance at the facility have been successfully completed. The work included improvements intended to support safer and more efficient operations, improve stormwater management and enhance the long-term sustainability of the facility.

Facility users may dispose of a maximum of three loads per vehicle per day. Vehicles, including any attached trailer, must have a carrying capacity of 1,5 tonnes or less. Customers are reminded to separate and sort their waste before arriving at the facility and to dispose of each waste stream only in the designated area, as directed by facility staff. Loads containing mixed, contaminated or unaccepted waste may be refused.

Commercial customers currently affected by the restriction on disposal of garden waste at drop-off sites should also please note that they can dispose of up to three loads per day at this facility in addition to currently available sites listed below.

‘We are pleased that the necessary work has been successfully completed and that Killarney can again provide its full range of services to residents. Community recycling centres give residents a convenient and responsible alternative to illegal dumping and help the City recover recyclable and reusable materials before they reach landfill.

‘We thank residents and businesses for their patience while the work was under way and encourage customers to cooperate with staff and comply with the facility’s conditions of use,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

Garden waste is currently accepted at:

  • Hout Bay, Prince George Drive, Tygerdal, Killarney: maximum of three loads of 1,5 tonnes per vehicle per day.

Commercial customers who have reached the applicable daily limit may make use of the Coastal Park landfill facility.
